Description
Originally composed by St. John Baptist de La Salle toward the end of his life, Meditations for the Time of Retreat offers sixteen deeply contemplative reflections written for educators, particularly the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Translated by Brother Augustine Loes, FSC, and introduced by Brother Miguel Campos, FSC, this edition restores the clarity and theological depth of De La Salle’s original vision. Each meditation explores the spiritual identity, vocation, and apostolic mission of educators, emphasizing their role as cooperators with Christ and as guardian angels for the young.
The meditations are especially intended for annual retreats, inviting Brothers to rediscover their “charismatic identity” through prayer and Scripture. Drawing richly from the New Testament—especially the writings of St. Paul—De La Salle frames teaching as a sacred ministry, rooted in the saving work of God and directed toward the transformation of students’ lives.
This edition also includes critical scholarly insights, scriptural references, and historical context, making it an essential resource for anyone engaged in Lasallian formation and education.
