A Little More Information

This is a project that was taken on by Br. Herman Lombaerts, FSC, at the De La Salle Center in Groot-Bijgaarden, Belgium. The video is based on his work and his writings.

He writes “One of the goals in developing this concept: we want a place people will leave as a different person than when entering it. A video of course cannot communicate these existential qualities. For example, “silence” is to be experienced. Also, the place is situated in a property which goes back to the 12th century, the foundation of a community of Benedictine Sisters – which in the 16th century became an abbey, destroyed end of 18th century, due to the French Revolution, and cleaned, uncovering the original structure of the abbey by the Brothers when they bought the property in 1897. These ruins as such are an experience of peaceful silence in remembrance of contemplative life during six centuries. The chapel intends to establish a link with this history and continue to link up with the longing for inner spiritual life of people today. One needs to be there to experience all this within one and the same act.”
