Description

Flying DeThomasis

The current quandary that the Roman Catholic Church finds itself in right now is what Brother Louis calls "a crisis of confidence" in this insightful, provocative, and hopeful new book. He points to the way of unraveling the quandary by returning the church's historic belief in tradition- "the lived experience of the faithful" - as a source of ongoing revelation and renewal. This is not an attack by someone intent on bringing down the church but rather a wake-up call for the church itself to recognize and embrace globalization, diversity, and democratization and begin to rebuild "koinonia" or "communio" in the Church.

DeThomasis_Dynamics-DeThomasis

Brother Louis addresses the important role of Catholic education in spreading the Christian message to new generations in new ways. He explains that the Catholic school is not the Catholic church and has a function different from the church itself. He proposes the following eight dynamics that Catholic schools must follow if they are to remain true to their calling to educate, inspire, and challenge their students in the changing world of the twenty-first century.

All Things DeThomasis

The word “but” was used by Jesus often to clarify to his disciples his teaching was different from the conventional wisdom of the time: "But I say to you..." This was never more true when he was speaking about how the disciples (right up to today) were to act toward one another and toward those outside the group. Brother Louis uses this method of Jesus to look at the Catholic Church today and how it must change if it is to carry out the mission it has been given by its founder.

Do You Know DeThomasis

In this book Brother Louis challenges the very nature of belief in the modern world and how human beings can practice an authentic spirituality in the twenty-first century. In our own perplexing attempts to peer beneath the veil of theological convention, we may discover there is a higher truth in questions that can't be answered than in answers that can't be questioned.
