The Twelve Virtues of a Good Teacher
This is a small booklet providing a classic reflection on 12 Virtues for a Good Teacher that St. John Baptist de La Salle listed in one of his texts. Brother Agathon’s exposition on each virtue has endures through the centuries and remains very relevant even today. Along with a printed booklet version, it is also available online at this link.
This collection of small format monographs published since 2001 by the MEL Secretariat in Rome addresses various topics connected with the Lasallian educational mission by a variety of authors. This Bulletin (Nº 254) is based on testimonies from Lasallians around the world. It is a compendium to Circular 461 and should be read in conjunction with it.
1986 Characteristics of Lasallian Schools
This 1986 document, developed by the Regional Education Committee of the Christian Brothers in the United States, emerged from a multi-year consultation and writing process, producing “a foundational and consensual document for the entire Lasallian system, which has the support of an impressive core of leadership people throughout the Region.”
The Brothers of the Christian Schools in the World Today – A Declaration (1967)
This is “an authoritative statement that would serve as foundation and unifying principle” of the work of the 39th General Chapter of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (1966-67). This 1997 translation of the document corrects some aspects of the original translation, as explained by Br. Luke Salm in the introduction.The document invites Lasallian educators “to resolutely enter upon the path of renewal and adaptation.”
Over the last 50 years, the Declaration has continued to be one of the most pivotal documents in the process of renewal among everyone associated with Lasallian schools, and it retains its relevance, appeal, and vitality to this very day.
ANNOTATED – The Brothers of the Christian Schools in the World Today: A Declaration (1967)
This version of the Declaration, the work of the 39th General Chapter of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (1966-67) is the 1997 translation of the document with annotations in the margins that refer to the Rule of 2015.
Since its publication in 1967, The Brother of the Christian Schools in the World Today: A Declaration has profoundly impacted the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. This impact can be seen in specific sections of the current Rule, approved by the 45th General Chapter in 2014 and by the Vatican in 2015. This annotated version of the Declaration provides documentation of the specific parts of the text which were foundational for parts of the new Rule. On each page of the text that of this version of the Declaration, the citations on the left margin indicate specific Articles in the current 2015 Rule. For further reference, the full text of each part of the Rule that is cited are listed at the end of the document.

The Story of De La Salle
This children’s book, created by the ARLEP District (Spain & Portugal), tells the story of St. John Baptist de La Salle, using his own voice. The artwork and the text are designed for use with young children. It was produced for the 300th anniversary of De La Salle’s passing into eternal life and has been translated into English in order to reach a larger audience.
Teaching Units for Lasallian Schools
These are complete Lasallian teaching units for high school students. Each level has a one-week set of all the resources needed to teach the classes. Created in 1998, they can be easily adapted and supplemented with videos and other more contemporary material. It’s a good place to start!
