MC Windows
Manhattan College – Lasallian Stained Glass Windows

These stained glass windows of John Baptist de La Salle, originally created in 1900, were moved to the chapel at Manhattan College in 2016.

The windows guide viewers as they move through the Chapel to visualize moments in the Saint’s life — from his childhood in Reims, to the vow he took with his Brothers, to his death in Rouen and his glorification in heaven, where he is welcomed by Christ and acknowledged as a great teacher by Saint Ignatius Loyola.

They may be seen on the Manhattan College website (LINK) where there is also an online tour via the internet (LINK)

Below in the tab “WINDOWS” are large files that show each of the windows in detail.

There is also a video that gives the history, process, and results of a project to relocate the Lasallian stained glass windows from the former Novitiate building in Barrytown, NY, to the chapel at Manhattan College in the Bronx. It is a good discussion starter on the topic of alumni engagement and Lasallian art. (13 Minutes)

PRINT - Years of Yearning
Years of Yearning

Years of Yearning is Brother Mel’s memoir of the Saint Mary’s he found (1969 – 1997) and the jumbled, tangled tapestry that took many years to unravel and reweave, a section at a time.  His philosophical vision had to adapt to a new academic world without sacrificing the liberal arts and Catholic principles he believed were crucial to the future.  The New Century Committee then wrote the courageous language of the College Mission Statement, the continuing standard bearer of the College’s educational philosophy today.

Declaration And 2015 RULE
ANNOTATED – The Brothers of the Christian Schools in the World Today: A Declaration (1967)

This version of the Declaration, the work of the 39th General Chapter of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (1966-67) is the 1997 translation of the document with annotations in the margins that refer to the Rule of 2015.

Since its publication in 1967, The Brother of the Christian Schools in the World Today: A Declaration has profoundly impacted the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. This impact can be seen in specific sections of the current Rule, approved by the 45th General Chapter in 2014 and by the Vatican in 2015. This annotated version of the Declaration provides documentation of the specific parts of the text which were foundational for parts of the new Rule. On each page of the text that of this version of the Declaration, the citations on the left margin indicate specific Articles in the current 2015 Rule. For further reference, the full text of each part of the Rule that is cited are listed at the end of the document.

This resource was researched and prepared in 2018 by Br. Paul Avvento, FSC.

MUSIC Let Us Remember 2
Let Us Remember – Octavo for Choir

This is a setting of a popular invocation of the Lasallian prayer: “Let us remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.” The setting is arranged for four voices (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) and simple to learn. Nevertheless, the harmonies are rich and complex. It is a great piece for choirs in Lasallian schools to us at their liturgies, prayer services, or as a prayer for Lasallian events.

HERE or below is a link to the page that includes the print Octavo, the PDF Octavo, and a recording sample.
