Coordinators or Animators for Lasallian Mission in the schools have a wide-ranging responsibility to support, enhance, and deepen the Lasallian character of the school. This usually includes the life of prayer, Lasallian formation of faculty and staff, and leadership in Lasallian formation efforts on the part of themselves or others.

Usually, such individuals are already well-versed in the Lasallian world and the multitude of resources that are generally available. The suggestions here should therefore be seen as complementing the personal, ongoing formation that is required to fulfill the role well. It will be assumed that Lasallian Coordinators will be looking through the other sections of this website for resource information.

Some resources that may be helpful on many levels include the many MEL Bulletins that are available online or via the Motherhouse in Rome, especially MEL 51 which focuses on formation for the Lasallian mission. The discussion guides that have been written for the booklet “St. John Baptist de La Salle: Founder, Educator, Saint” and Circular 461, along with “Discussion Questions for Selected Lasallian Publications,” are worth knowing about. The remastered movie “Saint John Baptist de La Salle: Patron Saint of Teachers” is popular with freshmen, and a number of the videos done in 1998-1999, such as Lasallian LIfe” or “Br. Felix Masson, FSC” or “Vocation of a De La Salle Christian Brother” – may be helpful in presentations about the Brothers and the Lasallian tradition of the school. It would certainly be worthwhile for Coordinators/Animators to consider attending the Buttimer Institute or pursuing an advanced degree in Lasallian Studies.

In terms of resources for prayer, there is the classic “Praying with St. John Baptist de La Salle” and the online Lasallian art collection from the Rome website.

While you have the responsibility to facilitate Lasallian formation, you will also personally benefit from sharing your experience with others who have the same responsibility. The more you enter into the process of real learning (AKA “Formation”), the greater the opportunity you will have to understand, engage in, and enjoy the Lasallian Catholic educational experience.
