Description

The last book written by John Baptist de La Salle, this book introduces a person to the art of interior prayer and meditation. Influenced by the great spiritual writers and traditions of his time, De La Salle makes his own contributions to the art of praying and presents detailed stages for developing one’s prayer life towards the ultimate stage of “simple attention” in the presence of God.

From the Editor’s Note: “To facilitate the reading and understanding of this difficult text, [Miguel] Campos and [Michel] Sauvage designed a unique format which breaks the heavy, dense text of the 1739 edition, the earliest one to have come down to us, into short stanzas or verses, facilitating reading and encouraging reflection. The format, however, preserves completely the integrity of the 1739 original edition text. The present English translation utilizes the same format, with the necessary adjustments required by the translation into English.”
